Upscaling settings explained

Target Resolution sets the desired DPI for output images. Upscaling Threshold defines how much smaller an image must be before upscaling is applied (e.g. 1.2 = upscale if image is 20% or more below target DPI).

Target resolution

The Target Resolution defines the desired output resolution of images in your PDF (in DPI – dots per inch). This ensures the images meet the quality requirements for printing or high-res display.

Common values:

  • 150 DPI – low quality, suitable for on-screen use

  • 300 DPI – standard print quality

  • 600–1200 DPI – high-end printing, fine detail

👉 Viesus compares the original image DPI against your selected target resolution. If it’s too low, it triggers upscaling.

Advanced: Upscaling Threshold

Upscaling Threshold sets the minimum factor by which an image must fall below the target resolution before it gets upscaled.

  • Factor 1.20 means:

If an image is less than 1.20× smaller than the target resolution, upscaling will be applied.

Example:

  • You choose 300 DPI as the target.

  • An image is currently 200 DPI.

  • Since 300 ÷ 200 = 1.5, which is above the 1.2 threshold, Viesus will upscale the image.

If the image is 260 DPI (≈ 1.15× smaller), it won’t be upscaled.

Why it matters

This gives you full control:

  • Set how sharp your output should be (Target DPI)

  • Prevent unnecessary upscaling (Threshold) when images are already close enough to the target

This ensures:

  • No wasted credits

  • No artificial sharpness

  • Consistent quality where it counts
